A retail customer created a mobile phone app, which used BizTalk Server as a back-end integration engine. Due to the synchronous nature of the user interaction, they had strict low-latency requirements. The project was close to completion, but the performance was not even close to meeting the requirements. I was hired as a short-term BizTalk consultant to analyze the situation and make improvement suggestions. No code changes were allowed at this stage.
After most of my recommendations were implemented, average latency was improved 22x without changing the code.
